Even in the movie "Airplane" when the very disturbed man brings a bomb on the airplane in his suitcase, it is marked this way. I believe that this is the most typical and recognized way to display that someone has traveled the globe.

I think you've gotten the idea across with the stickers. You could reinforce the idea even more by making the bag worn out or putting a patch on the corner where it has worn through from being thrown around.
