Layout Design Week 3

Cool Beverage!

The cool coloring of this layout makes you want to join the party! If color contrast is in the mix you have it here. Using limes and mint was a clever idea for the designer to attract the public taste buds...lol!

Form and Space

This is a berinbal, a Brazilian musical instrument. This weird thing is about 6 feet long made of sugar cane bamboo, a coconut with a whole in the middle, and a thick wire going from one end of the bamboo to the other. It also makes a weird sound that is played during the capoeira “dance/fight”.
I think the shape of this object is very interesting, especially because it is musical instrument. The fact that the whole object is made of natural things that came out straight from the nature attracts me a lot and it also represents Brazil and its natural resources.
The picture on the right shows the guys doing the capoeira and playing a smaller version of the berinbal.

5th and final find of design...me!

5. I feel this image really brings out a side of me that is rarely seen amongst my "boys." I show a since of composure and clarity with the help of the black and white effect. This design element gives me a feel of style and class.

Three and four of Five finds.. including me!

3. An interesting picture I found online of an architecture. I like the way the thin steel beams in between are the only support that is keeping it from collapsing. I looks to possibly be a great sketch to make also.

4. A shot of the top of the University of Tampa's registration building with an added filter to give it an antique look. I think The shot has great transition in it. From the style of the college versus that of its counterpart in the background which is more common.

Two of five finds... including me!

1. Image of an old library taken at an side-ward view with an exposure effect added to the image.

2. Picture taken of a area in my condominium community. It gives a very peaceful and serene feel of design with photography.

Don't mistake legibility for communication

I find this piece by David Carson very bold and innovative in the use of type. I love how much room there is to breathe with the copy in the bottom right portion of the piece.
The message itself is also very attractive to me, being one of the golden rules that i believe all designers should live and die for.

Form and Space Week 3

This image is created out of forged steel, oxyacetylene cut and scrap boiler plate metal. Oxyacetylene cutting involves cutting thick pieces of steel at high speed with the use of an oxygen-cutting torch. Here is some more information about Oxyacetylene cutting (http://www.ironworking.com/burn.html). This sculpture is suppose to be a horse racing through modern times, and was created to represent the artist's career ride for reedom of expression.

Form and Space Week 2

http://www.rmh.de/profile

I stumbled upon this website and was fascinated by what it had to offer. The front page reminded me of iRobot, and this company seems to be just as advanced as that movie! New Media gmbh provides solutions and services for different virtual environmets such as realtime, motion and hub. They assist in sales and marketing with 3D content. This image is a 3D digital version of a classic wood puzzle game whose object is to navigate a ball through the maze and avoid holes by tilting the surface. The way you navigate is by using your feel and it is considered a team effort. Very high tech.

Form and Space Week 1

I found this online (my digi camera is broken, so I have to rely on the internet). I chose this because I was amazed at how a 2D piece of paper can so accurately display a 3D object. This is a computer wallpaper, and I feel like it it popping out from the screen. The simplicity of the water creates so much more depth than if the object was on a white or black background. The shadows and the reflections make the object look amazing.

Form and Space - The Pieta

The Pieta is one of Michelangelo’s finest works, in my opinion. As you look at this sculpture, you can see the form of the human that Michelangelo was going for. He is showing the human figure from all sides and every feature on it. The three- dimensional shape of this sculpture gives us a great view of not only Jesus but his mother Mary holding him as he lies in her arms. As you look at the faces, you see the loss that Mary feels, but you almost get a sense of peace on Jesus' face. As a three-dimensional sculpture, it is interesting to see how the human body is portrayed through Michelangelo’s eyes. The function of this particular piece, I believe, is to show you the pain of Mary the mother of Jesus as her earthly son lies dead in her arms. As I look at this, I see the form of two humans represented as they really are showing emotion. I look at this sculpture with wondering eyes as to how someone can create a sculpture of the human body in such a realistic form. This sculpture shows us not only the form but also the feeling that Michelangelo is trying to show us the pain of Mary as she holds the lifeless body of her son.

LAYOUT DESIGN POST// JEAN L

I think this layout has style. It's simple, but effective. I like the contrast.

The Lifestraw by Torben Vestergaard Frandsen

Voted "Best Invention of 2005" by Time Magazine. An example of form and function for a good cause. It's a portable water-purification device that removes water-borne diseases to turn most surface water into drinking water. It's hard to imagine that over 1 billion people are without safe drinking water... this is one step to changing that. More info on http://www.lifestraw.com .

Form and Space week 3

This is a project I did for 3-D design in community college. It’s a cube made from foam core with circles cut out. Painted canvas covers the holes. Some of the canvas panels have buttons sewn on. Others have textured paper soaked in paint smoothed on. The one on top has a freeform wire shape attached. The sides are glued and sewn together. I had to cut a hole in the bottom to thread the cord through pre-cut holes. It’s painted with spray paint, red layered over black. The idea was that it would represent a view into my own heart, which wasn’t feeling too friendly at the time. The tangled wire is pretty in a way but like a maze, confusing and possibly dangerous. The black tree with the curved branches is my signature design. It’s beautiful in a gothic way. The fact that the box is sewn together makes its construction seem hasty and careless. But it is a solid cube, so it’s attempting to be a solid structure.

Form & Space_Dali sculpture

For my second week of journal work finds, my first object is the three dimensional representation of one of Salvador Dali famous and recognizable paintings. Having in mind the details from that art work, we can imagine how they can be interpreted in a three dimensional way so those details can be seen at different angles. It is known that this particular painting is obviously a two dimensional flat image; that is the way we all recognize that Dali’s painting. Now, let us imagine how that painting would look like in a three dimensional space. Not meaning the whole thing, just the center part (the man being born from the Earth in the shape of an egg). As a dimensional sculpture, is very interesting to appreciate its details in volume and in its three dimensions as well as the entire piece. The reason why I chose this particular 3D sculpture is simply because I already recognized the masterpiece as a painting in its original way, but now I had the opportunity of seeing it as a sculpture.
