Conceptual Imagery - BUSINESS and PLEASURE

Business and pleasure to me are represented with a very straightforward approach for me. It's relating to the forms of travel that Pleasure provides and business provides. Very few people enjoy traveling for business and many times encounter or at least remember all the things that went wrong during their vacation trip. Business shows someone dressed all nice for their business trip but it's raining and they are stuck at the airport with delays and are exhausted from their 12 hr flight halfway around the world. This would probably most likely represent my own dad because he flies to China and locations on the other side of the globe. He often is extremely exhausted from his trips and encounters many flight problems on a normal basis. Pleasure is basically just flying to that tropical location without problems and being extremely relaxed and/or happy.

Bean DIP...YUMMM

This jar of pinto bean dip is VERY well designed. The animal/African/safari print grabs the consumer’s eye. It looks a little “over the top” at first, but this design is effective in jumping off the shelf. I don’t think it is too over the top. The illustration is fun and creative.

Commute

I chose to draw stop and go traffic for “commute”. I know there aren’t usually signs that say stop and go, but I was trying to portray HOW ANNOYING commuting is when there is a bunch of traffic. I had a really hard time coming up with a drawing for this one, as you might be able to tell. I couldn’t really distinguish between commute and travel, other than the idea that commuting is often traveling to work or school in a lot of traffic while traveling might be going around the world or something that is more leisurely for fun.

Now and Then

These two images go together. I am representing “now” and “then” in the sense that dancing has changed so much throughout the years. It was originally happy music and upbeat. Men and women danced together, but not really touching each other. They would hold hands and shake. I drew an image of a girl wearing a poodle skirt to represent “then”…dancing back in the days. I drew an image of a girl with a really short skirt and a man with his arms around her waste to represent dancing “now”. The girls wear a lot skimpier clothes and the guys seem to dance A LOT closer.

Conceptual Imagery

I was attempting to draw a really sad looking girl. Depression in my mind is so unbearable that you can’t even move or function. You don’t worry about your appearance or your attitude. This girl looks a little homeless, but that wasn’t my idea. I wanted to make it look like she has bags under her eyes from crying for so long and she hasn’t taken care of herself because she’s been so sad.

Business and Pleasure

To me business is networking, corporate america, shaking hands with your co-workers or possible employers. That's why I chose to show the hands shaking in either a greeting or aggreement. The interpertation is up to the viewer, but shaking hands in business attire can be viewed as a business meeting or what not. As for pleasure, working off the hands, I decided to do a take on a parent, here a father, holding the hand of his child. I'm not a parent yet, but would assume that is way more pleasure than anything having to do with business.

Then and Now

Here I chose to represent then and now as modes of transportation. Back in the day, they would use horse and carriages. I tried to keep the drawing as straight forward as possible and show the horse and carriage without people and any background. The car is the same way, just showing the car in its simpliest form. I think it represents then an now and shows the progression and evolution of our inventions.
