Package Design

Hannaford Milk Chocolate Hot Cocoa Mix: this one stands out on the shelf with the majority of the package being brown, compared to Swiss Miss having a blue and white box, and Nestle mostly red. Although the brown box stands out, the presentation of the product’s information could be better designed. The main information, “milk chocolate hot cocoa mix with marshmallows”, has a stroke, highlight, and drop shadow, which makes the words somewhat difficult to read. There are more effective ways to make a product and its info stand out than loading it down with all of those special effects, and using them just makes the designers look bad for creating it and the brand even worse for using it. The image isn’t horrible, but could be improved perhaps with better lighting techniques or using a different color cup since the type is also white which causes the words to blend right into it. The logo could also be a bit smaller as right now it seems to be competing with its own image and information, rather than working with it.
