Package Design Week #7 Bad Packaging

This product in the photo is the "Success is Rice" positioned near the popular Uncle Ben brand and the Publix brand. This package was actually eye catching but at the same time has a tacky 1980's design. The reason it caught my eye is because of the surrounding product not having a bright combination of colors compared to it. It's got that larger area of bright red and all the others have a dull orange color. The pictureof the rice on the box is also washed out and from more than 5 feet almost looks like nothing is printed on the box in that area. The overall design however is just uncreative. It's a simple layout with a boring typeface that's borderline novelty and a simple picture with really bright colors which is a bit too much. Normally you see these bright colors on junk food in the snacks isle. Rice generally is very healthy food and they should emphasize that more than trying to make you go blind from staring at it.
