I love Target!

This packaging is unique and I believe that is what makes it stand out on the shelf. I like the die cuts; I like the unique shape of the box; I like the colors and I like the design. I would totally buy this product based just on the fact that….it looks really cool. I would probably not take the product out of the box. I would probably just leave it in there and set it up on my shelf.

Nice Design!

This design works well on all of its products and they did a good job at making it work with every type of bottle, bag, jar etc. The design is clean and when all the products are placed next to each other, it makes a beautiful display. They have created a unified pattern that they use on every jar but they are able to distinguish between the different flavors and spiciness by changing up the colors.

Package Design

I think this is an interesting take on candy bars. Making it look like an envelope or something that can be posted is different than usual. In addition, there is a letter inside them, which makes the consumer want to buy one so they can read what it says inside. The pink one contains a love letter, so it might be something to give for Valentine’s Day to that special someone. I think the colors also make it unusual, yet nice. Most candy bars are in a brown packaging with the foil inside.

Did I mention how much I love Target?

I love these packages. The picture is not that great, but I think these packages really work. They are very bright and stand out even among the other packages on the shelf. They work as individuals and they also work as a group. I was tempted to buy them just because I liked the package so much. The candles inside don’t even smell very good. Everything on this shelf is bright and colorful, but these four boxes stand out the most to me. I think they are elegant and fun at the same time. I like the design and the use of black and a bright color.

Package Design Week #8 Good Packaging

Starkist in this picture really stands out and blows me away to catch the eye and create an easily recognizable brand. The color obviously is the first thing that stands out. The vibrant blue works well for the product and they also have it in a shrink wrap packaging which allows for this. The single cans on the bottom two shelfs have a large amount of white space and doesn't even look appealing. I buy quite alot of tuna with a high protein diet and i almost always buy white albacore tuna from starkist. Actually, i buy starkist brand every single time. From first glance it seems almost like their tuna will taste better because of the colors and vibrant design. Another thing i'd like to point out is how Starkist creates character with their brand and has a cartoon as a sort of mascot for their brand. Cereal makes use of that and i think it's one of the main reasons for Kellogg's success in the industry especially for kids.

Package Design Week #7 Bad Packaging

This product in the photo is the "Success is Rice" positioned near the popular Uncle Ben brand and the Publix brand. This package was actually eye catching but at the same time has a tacky 1980's design. The reason it caught my eye is because of the surrounding product not having a bright combination of colors compared to it. It's got that larger area of bright red and all the others have a dull orange color. The pictureof the rice on the box is also washed out and from more than 5 feet almost looks like nothing is printed on the box in that area. The overall design however is just uncreative. It's a simple layout with a boring typeface that's borderline novelty and a simple picture with really bright colors which is a bit too much. Normally you see these bright colors on junk food in the snacks isle. Rice generally is very healthy food and they should emphasize that more than trying to make you go blind from staring at it.

layout design week #10

This is form the back of an insert that included a bunch of DVD's available. I like how the colors work together and how everything is mainly on the right side. I like how the pictures come up from the CW.

layout design week #9

This is an insert I received when I bought a season of One Tree Hill. Inside is all the other TV shows you can purchase on DVD. I like how they included several different sized pictures, but I'm not a fan of the colors scheme. It's somewhat boring, but I do like that there are different sized pictures.

This is a mailer I received from American Eagle. The mailer is promoting their new spring collection. I feel that the colors are well representative of spring break and the pictures are as well. I like how the canvas is divided up.

This is a mailer I received promoting new items at Bonefish Grill. Bonefish Grill is known for having really fresh fish and I feel this mailer exemplifies that perfectly. The colors work together well.

layout design week #6

This is a mailer promoting a conference for college group leaders. I love how the canvas is divided with a small piece on the left side and the larger white on the right. I like how the name of the conference (Thirsty) is horizontal, while the slogan is printed vertically. If you can't see, its water that is sloshing around the page, which ads to the name of the conference.

Week 7 Analysis

For this weeks packaging analysis I chose Hillshire Farms Deli Selects package. I picked this as a good packaging idea because I tend to buy deli meat pre-packaged a lot and the most frustrating thing is how it goes bad quickly. And then for some reason at the grocery store I decided to pick up this package, just to try something new. Once I got it home and opened it I realized how fantastic of an idea it was. They have their meat packaged in an almost air tight plastic package inside of tupperware. This allowed for the meat to stay fresher longer and also made it so much easier to access the meat. I realize now that even Publix brand does this same thing with their deli meat; however, it is something that was such a simple idea but made a huge difference in how I chose to buy my meat, which in turn probably was the same for other consumers if it was for me as well.

Package Design Week 6 Good Packaging

This is a great design as are most alcohol bottles these days. This one however is not only a great drink but has a terrific design appropriate for the product. It has of course a very elegant look to it with colors that reflect the irish. Dark green is the bottle color and green and a slight tint of orange is on the front. The gold flake color makes the elegant stand out a bit more than usual and the wrapping around the top neck of the bottle also has a sleek design to it. Of course with most alcoholic beverages you tend to think the cheap alocohol is in the plastic containers which usually is true especially with vodka. This is a glass bottle which isn't just clear but a dark green tint . There is a mold into the bottle too to make the product seem authentic and to let you know it passed some sort of detailed process. When drinking you tend to want to drink it slow and savor it as if it's something special.

Vicks

Remnants of my week long half flu, half cold adventure. With my being half out of it for a week I really appreciate the color coordination with the orange for day and purple and blue for night. The directions for how much to take could be bigger, though. It took me a while to find them. I also had a smaller bottle where you had to pull out the label to find all the instructions and those were printed larger. They should do that with all the medication. The type is all right. It’s really big and easy to read, which is what they were going for, I bet. The best part is that they include the little tablespoon-measuring cup. Very helpful.

Package Design Bad Packaging Week 6

The generic brand milk that you buy at the store around here is completely boring. My mom admitted that she buys it simply because it's the cheapest. If they were just to give the design just a bit of spark along with the cheaper price im sure the sales would be improved. About the only thing that is successful about this design in my opinion is the color coding for the nonfat and lowfat milk. Legibility is fine since it's in big bold lettering but the design lacks more than anything. I see Fieldcrest and then a sort of midievil shield so maybe they should let people know or see more the reasoning behind it on their packaging. There is also ALOT of white space on the design and it's basically all typographic in nature which isn't always bad but this one doesn't get away with that. On top of that there seems to be a batttle with the heirarchy of the logo and the title of the product. Both of them are close to the same size so it's hard to read fieldcrest or 1% lowfat milk.
