Also at the Rock Fest concert they had this huge dinosaur playing a guitar. I couldn’t imagine why they would have a dinosaur playing a guitar but again it’s a rock concert anything could happen. The dinosaur was big enough that you could see it all the way in the back when you first walk in and it was in the back of the concert area where if you had passes you can meet some of the band members. I was so tickled to see the dinosaurs I forgot to watch parts of the show. The dinosaur also had a Mohawk on it which also remained me of the Chick-Fil-A Minnie Moo at Hot Topic.

In the International mall each store was giving a Chick-Fil-A Minnie Moo and they had to dresses it up and display it for everyone to see. Then who ever did they best job on dressing it up or had the most creative way displaying it; the employees of that store got free Chick-Fil-A. The Hot Topic in my opinion was the most creative one. Some of the stores that we saw just did a little bit to their cow, but the Hot Topic had a Mohawk, a studded collar and ear piercings galore. When you walk by the window, if you liked Hot Topic or not, it was defiantly and eye catcher.

After the Z Galleria Tina and I went into this makeup place and saw these cardboard poster things of girls in underwear. You could walk around them and they were the same on both sides. It reminded me of our poem mobile and how they had to think of both sides and how the perspective would be like on the other side. There were several of them in different sitting and standing positions. I don’t understand what lingerie and make up have to do with each other but it was still really cool to look at and see how they thought of the different displace for the makeup and the girls in lingerie.

My friend Lori and I went to the movies over at Citrus Park and as we went up stairs there was this huge castle like structure of gray blocks. I just had to walk around and go inside of the castle. It wasn’t build very well for it was kind of falling apart but it was still cool to walk in and out of. It wasn’t total closed off you could walk in and out of it and the walls weren’t all connected so it was like a maze kind of castle where you could walk in and out of the front and back it had several entrances to the block castle. It didn’t say what the castle was in relation too but I want to say for the Prince Caspian movie that just came out.

I really liked this wall hanging statue because of how it was put together. Her hair was put together with what it looked like koi fish. As the fish swam around it make her hair look like it was flowing all over her. The fish also made up her top and part of her fin. She has such a surreal face on and makes the statue seem so alluring and calming to look at. I also loved the color scheme the artist used on this statue the bright orange fish with the dark purple of her fin and parts of her purple brown hair made it really stand out from the other wall statues.

Along with the Hermes statue there was this other statue of this naked chick pouring water into the river. I really liked this statue for its elegancies and for the creative angels the artist put into this statue. The state was arranged in a very taste full stance and with the water pouring out of the pot she was holding into the little lake she was standing over made the statue calming and pleasing to look at. This statue reminded me a lot of Maxfield Parris paintings.

When Jenn and I were walking down the street to some of the sponge stores we saw this huge sea turtle. I wanted to ride it but I am sure that wouldn’t be a great idea. The sea turtle I presume stud for the sea turtle migration. Or it could have just been because Tarpon Springs is near the ocean and sea turtles live in the ocean. Next to the turtle there was this giant shark that was hanging upside down and people were taking pictures of it with their family all around. Then maybe the turtle and the shark were there so turrets could take funny picture with their family for memories.

As Jenn and I were walking down the streets in Tarpon Springs we came across this statue of some kind of bird. This bird was bug eyes with some crazy wings on it and looked like some kind of Aztec bird God. When we looked around the window into the store, the store had already closed for the day. We saw a bunch of other statues like that one. This statue was one of the bigger and more elaborate statues therefore it was smart to put it at the wind because it defiantly caught our eye and we wanted to go in the store but like is said it had already closed for the day.

I’ve notice in looking into finding 3D objects that most of the statue I have found stand for some kind of reminder. Like the statue in Pensacola on the Blue Angels base. When you walk into the museum there is a statue of 5 men in uniform with a big American flag over them. It stands as a reminder for all the former men and women who have fought and have done heroic things. Like the statue with WWII with the men holding up the flag.

Cheesy Roadside Attractions
I don’t know who is the nut- the one who built this or the one who is displaying this. It seems that every small town must have a gimmick to attract tourists and so the need for the Cheesy Roadside Attraction Maker. Every animal you can think of has been scaled up to the size of enormous just for the sole purpose of attracting some wanders by and families on road trips. Would I ever take a detour to see the largest ball of twine or the biggest shoe, no probably not, but who would in this economy. In the time of National Lampoon, families regularly spent time at these interesting rest stops just to say that they have visited the largest boot in America. If you were a maker of these strange items you would need to know a lot about metal, fiberglass, and any other material that would continue to last throughout the generations.

Custom Jewelry Maker

I have noticed that during Christmas and Valentine’s day one jeweler will come out with the year’s “it” jewelry and everyone will copy it- for example the Trinity ring, or this past years Journey pendent. If you want to go against the norm, become a jewelry designer. As a custom jeweler you will need to know multiple techniques for soldering and metal fabrication techniques, in addition to workability of metals, testing of metals, and finishing techniques. Other than knowledge about metals, you will also need to know about gemology, enamels, and specialty materials like perhaps glass or plastic.

In the picture above you see an artist’s interpretation of jewelry. She considers the body the piece of “metal” that would be the base for the “gem,” which in this case is light. Her designs reflect onto the body to create her jewelry.

The color adds punch and identifies the buildings as unique to their location . . . I tried to take this photo myself while in Hong Kong, being so struck by the incredible human density contained within these sky-scrapping projects that cover the island and surrounding area, but couldn't do the scene the same justice as this photographer. . .

Apart from the really interesting and innovative piece of art displayed here - a skull sculpture made of melted cassette tape casings - I appreciate this layout for several reasons. . .

I like the simplicity, high contrast and organization (like a track list) of the text within the layout. I also like the stylized details at the corners of the piece. All the information is necessary and easily interpreted allowing for the emphasis and focus to remain on the boldness and interest of the image/art. . .

This is my favorite magazine - SEED - the periodical navigates the incredibly interesting and unique interface between science and art/design . . . A defining characteristic of the mag is the rainbow graphic present on the spine of each issue. The image itself is a spectroscopy analysis (a method through which a chemical compound is bombarded with entire visible spectrum of light to reveal a unique pattern - the white bars that appear on the rainbow); so on issue there is the consistency of rainbow image across the spine, but every month features a different element (meaning that the white lines are in different places on each issue). . . really cool! For this issue in particular, I'm really drawn to the circuitry incorporated into the text and the use of color, the primary muted colors of the background image really allow the bright orange of the title to pop.

I really like the multiplicity of all of the tiny pieces and parts cascading across this layout. . . this artist's work is so incredibly meticulous and detailed! The bold yet muted color Palate is nice, and the tonal shifts really help move the viewer's eye through the composition. There exists an essential juxtaposition and contrast between the planes of the image, allowing the audience to circulate within the piece and gather more and more information with each take . . .

So… I was walking around at the point back to my car after dropping off my mixxtape to a friend. That’s when I came across the most interesting looking set of meters. They just looked picture worthy. I just thought to myself if I switched the image to grayscale how it would look so mechanical yet organic at the same time. The pipes were weaving in and out in their design. I thought that was cool. And the paint on the meters themselves had some texture due to the fact that the pipes were somewhat torn up from the weather. They had mulch on them in the cracks and crevasses; the paint was chipped as well. The only thing I had to do next was get a good iso shot of the meters and switch it to grayscale to give it a little drama. I took a couple of shots and it was a wrap. Nice picture, I think.

I’m sure anyone that has cats for pets will know what one of these is. I was at a friend’s apt and I saw this thing up and I didn’t know what it was. So then they told me it was a cat playhouse. I don’t think the lens could possibly even capture those intensely bright colors on this waste of space. Not once did I see the cats even scrape it this thing. However, it made for a good shot of something with form and too much space. This thing took up the whole right side of where the entertainment set was to the door. Which was a pretty big space. I couldn’t even get the whole play place in the picture. What I did find interesting was the circles on the inside, like hoops. The cats jump and fall through the holes I’m assuming. Although I never got to see the contraption in action it made for another good blog find.

Not too far past the turtle on the beach, I came across and interesting looking piece of metal. It was this water fountain. I didn’t even know what it was at first because it was sitting next to the bike rack loops that were coming out of the concrete sidewalk near the bushes. The fountain however did stand out a lot. It was shiny and looked as if the metal was polished and sculpted smoothly. I’m guessing someone deliberately designed the fountain to have that half a cylinder type modern look, or it was made from scrap metal and shined up. Either way, it’s efficient as well as a nice piece of art. The only thing that I don’t like about the fountain is that it’s so low. But I’m sure children appreciate it. So I guess that was something the designer took into consideration that would have been a mistake of mine if I were the one constructing it.

This is a really cool sculpture I came across when I was at the beach taking photos for Image Manipulation class. I’ll be surprised if I hear no one has ever posted a picture of this for form and space. This turtle is awesome. Too funny. It just sits about seven and a half feet on top of a concrete pole on the sidewalk near the beach just before you get close to the pier. The colors are so vibrant that it’s almost impossible to miss. I was wondering why it was there. I’ve never seen any turtles in Clearwater, especially on the beach. But maybe I’m just not there enough. The sculpture is very round like a turtle. Which is great. The way that it’s standing with its hand out makes it look even more animated. Definitely the best turtle sculpture I’ve never seen which is weird because I’ve been to a lot of theme parks in the past. I think whoever decided to make that sculpture and put it by the beach should make more, of different animals. Not too many, but maybe like two or three.

Custom Staircase & Lighting Designers
Some artists or architects might go a little far in the pursuit of creating the “glory piece” of a house, building, or room. With custom houses come custom features and appliances. You would have to be able to incorporate the flow of the rooms when you design a staircase, and be able to fit with the style of the home, i.e. a grand staircase like the one pictured would not have a place in a traditional southern mansion. This particular one is crazy! Think of the liability if someone was to fall. This house would not be one for the elderly or kids.

Dale Chihuly, artist, and Paul Gregory, designer of the Waterford Crystal Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball, are two people that have created unique lighting fixtures that have to be equally cognizant of the surroundings, purpose, and manner in which they will be displayed. Since their pieces have to be lit up they have to take an account of how light will bounce off and transcend into the room below. Obviously the Chihuly piece that is pictured looks really hard to install because of all the glass pieces that are spiraling outward. He would have to think ahead to what it will look like from all sides and what it would look like illuminated and not illuminated.

By the way if you type in “creative staircases” into a Google search you will come up with some amazing, and seemingly dangerous, staircases. One was carved from a tree trunk in the middle of a house. Another one was a slide and stair combo. And one was even retractable!

Cake Decorator
This is along the same viewpoint as the fruit sculpture- cake decorator. You are trying to take an object and make it edible, at least enough of it to be shared and then eaten at a party. Food Network has a television program named, Ace of Cakes, where a team creates crazy objects out of fondant, cake, and icing. Sometimes the cakes go as far as having motorized or illuminated pieces. It seems in the cake-decorating field they have conquered the typical two-dimensionalness of the sheet cake and moved upwards to the third plane. With the use of airbrushes depth and special textures can be added to any cake and made to be more realistic of the object it is trying to portray. One can only guess where you would begin to cut the cake if it is in a three-dimensional form.

Architectural Modeler
So you are given a couple of sketches and perhaps an AutoCAD file and you must recreate a building using foam, plastic, and paper trees. That is a lot of glue to dry. Besides a good background in geometry, architectural modelers need to be able to create molds of small windows, lampposts, fencing, etc. that are specific and customized; and make plastic pieces that they later have to fit together like a puzzle. With new technology merging with new construction
materials, modelers need to be creative when recreating a more modern structure with twists and curves that are neither natural nor typical of what we think a building should look like. The model in the picture is a big as the woman sitting next to it. Can you imaging the thought involved when considering the placement of each piece?

Food Sculpture
Ok. So the Culinary School might be upset at me for saying this but you don’t need to take a class or have a degree in culinary arts to carve fruit and vegetables. If you can carve something out of an 8x8x8 floral foam box then you can carve lily pads out of a watermelon. Heck, I‘ve carved things out of pumpkins every year since I was 6 years old.

Carved fruit baskets and vegetable trays have become very popular nowadays, and it has been slowly moving flowers out of the market. Don’t get me wrong, though, flowers are still very big as a gift- especially last minute. I remember watching the news a couple months back about a school banning cupcakes to celebrate kids birthday parties. Some parents thought that bringing cupcakes for class parties was unhealthy and parents should bring in fruit baskets instead.

Set Design/Prop Maker
As a prop maker, you’d be to creating realistic-looking objects for use in theatre, film and elevision. You might make anything from fake jewelry to replica weapons. Skills needed are knowledge and competency of carpentry, sculpting, casting, sewing, painting, welding and computer-aided design. You would work off of rough sketches to detailed designs, carry out historical or cultural research in order to make authentic-looking props (which might mean traveling to other countries), and experiment with different materials and techniques to create realistic effects (other than the typical metal, latex, fiberglass, wood or fabric). Of course this would require you to be able to use various tools other than a pen or pencil, you know the kinds that plug into an electrical socket and make loud noises. You can combine your love of Home Depot and Pearl Art Supplies!

Parade Float Maker
A parade float maker is a pretty dirty job-at least that is what the Discovery show thinks since that is where I got the idea. You are essentially building a wire mesh frame atop a motor vehicle and then decorating it with various floral arrangements to make it “come alive.” A float maker has to be conscious of the audience so they have to make both sides of the parade route equally awestruck by the design. The following pictures and except are from the creator of “Dinner’s On…Fire!” float that was in the Rose Parade. It proves that the designer has to take into consideration the audience, driver, safety lookout, and floral workers.

“The barbeque was now a brick design, so there would be a place for the float driver. The "Happy Face" was gone from Papa's apron just in case there were any copyright issues to the design. The float was done in two levels to enhance the view for parade viewers. Overall, though, the basic design would stay very consistent through the actual construction of the float.

A few more changes can be seen in the final version. The picnic basket has been moved forward to provide a spot for the safety observer on the float, while the overall setting has been changed to a more gradual slope. The tree trunk has been bulked up to include a sophisticated hydraulic system, as the tree would be too tall to get out of the construction building or under the bridges in Pasadena unless it could be tilted to lower the top.

Parade Balloon and Inflatable Costume Maker
A graphic designer that can think out of the box-- way out of the box-- can
become a designer of parade balloons and inflatable costumes. Not only do you
have to first put your design to paper, create a small-scale model, and visualize it
with the techniques and materials of an inflatable balloon, but you also need to
keep in mind aerodynamics, properties of hot and cold air, and the fact that
people will be moving it along, either outside or in. They have to be able to
create a design that will be easily recognizable with a rounded frame or structure,
and use materials that are not meant for detailed work. Although, balloon
makers now use airbrushes to create 3D features. The picture illustrates the
process that PARADE GIANTS, a custom-inflatable balloon company, goes
through when making a parade balloon for The Peace Dove Project in 2006.
By the way inflatable balloon costumes cost anywhere from $1,000-20,000 (5’ to
30’+)

This piece is a sculpture made by an artist that designs lifelike fairytale sculptures. Mainly fairies. Since she was young the artist had always had an appreciation for fairies and imaginary things of that sort. So when she began sculpting she decided it would be a neat idea to make tiny fairy sculptures. Soon after she designed a couple she thought it would be even cooler if he tried to make the sculptures look as lifelike as possible. As soon as I saw this picture of this sculpture I thought it was VERY interesting, and kind of creepy as well.

This is a sculpture that was designed by an artist on the concept art blog. I’ve always enjoyed the artwork of this group. This piece of work caught my eye because of its comic book-like features. It looks like something straight out of animation. Not only that but it’s also life-sized. The character itself “minyak” was inspired from an old folklore tale of an ugly creature who makes a deal with the devil to become good looking. But in order to become good-looking he must rape several virgins. The catch is, once he became good looking, every time the devil needed him to do his dirty work again he would turn him back into the same ugly disfigured creature again. I don’t know where this artist found such a tale, but he sure did a great job re-creating this character. The pieces were shaped and added rather than subtracted from a huge mold. He used thick wires for the skeleton of the piece. It looks like he used some sort of block putty or soft ceramic material.

I came across this statue when I was in Ybor with some friends. It caught my eye first for it being a fountain and then I started to look at it for all the animals worked into it. The most interesting part about it is that the male mermaid is all covered up staring at the female mermaid who is full frontal. I just thought it was ironic. After starting at the statue, that first brought us from the street, we started to look at the school, Tampa University, it’s a nice tactic to bring people from the street to come look at the school.

I found this photo last year when working on a project and have always enjoyed the nature of the piece. This sculpture is a display piece for the Kansas City libraries, and is a unique piece. Seemingly unsupported, this ring of books invites people into the library as they enter. I personally enjoy the composite nature of the ring, as it is comprised of a very diverse assortment of books, with a great range of shapes and sizes. It almost gives a since of movement as if a stack of books exploded in a circular fashion.

The original photographer linked the piece to the Stargate, as if it is a gate way into reading. While I agree with their sentiments, I find it to be much more interesting to look at then read. I personally think it would be interesting to see what books comprise the sculpture, possibly giving an insight into the personal views of the artist.

Bright color punch at center with text below and products at bottom creates good direction within the composition of the layout.

Interesting image cropping - with the head beyond the frame the figure becomes anonymous, an image for the consumer to try on.

I like how this layout uses the arrangement of the clock to represent time for the graphics and steps in the text.

I found this while in Atlanta back in October. I thought it was strange to have such a big statue next to the building. The fish is actually made of steel and as you can see is very tall. I like how it curves to mimic a fish actually jumping out of water and the way they made it look very grungy works well with the statue.

i was handed out this flyer this weekend after a latin concert in orlando, i really dont like the way certain flyers are laid out just like this one with the different fonts, colors and hard to read information.

Above is an image of a sculpture that I saw on a webpage. It caught my attention immediately because of the style of character that was sculpted. In general, I enjoy pieces that have detail within the body’s structure. This sculpture has a lot of detail and the wood was carved to make a comic book character figure. The sculptor did a great job coloring the piece along with giving the anime character a dramatic tone to compliment the figure’s stance. As a drawing, this would be hard for most to pull off the right way. This figure was carved however and then painted on. That’s amazing to me. You can see how the light bounces off the deeper creases within the character’s suit. What I like the most is the choice of weapon, the way the pants looks like pants (as if they’re actually tighter in some areas), and the upper armor. It’s just a great demonstration of how an animation can be brought to life. You can even see the actual wood at the bottom where the paint fades. Crazy.

I came across this statue/ad in a conveinence store on my way home from school one evening. I thought it was an interesting way for them to try and promote selling alcohol considering that it is a statue of a penguin. Not many people would connect a statue of a penguin to drinking beer, so I'm not sure it is completely successful in that matter; However, the statue is placed right next to the freezer that is full of alcohol and it does grab your attention which would infact direct a customer to the freezer which would tempt that person to buy the product it was meant to sell.

ok what is neat about this Layout Design is that it is very simple but it does hold alot of imformation. i think that placing the text not in the boxes in an unexpected place was a bold but a smart move. becasue it isn't traditional but it works and make the product feel like that there isn't any other product out there like it

what really is interesting to me about this Layout Design is the way they used the fine print. instead of putting it on the bottom they puut it on the side top. i think that this ways smart becasue itnot only changes things up for the view but it makes you a little bit more interested in why they put it up therre and this then casue you to look at it when if it was at the bottom you already would know what it is and not even think about looking at it

what is good about this Layout Design is that the layout id divided into four columes and the text is only in one of the columes. this not only gives the Layout Design demision but it makes your eye go into a circle. which no matter what make you look at each image and that is what the advertiser pays for

this layout works really well. you have the main focuse of the image on the bottom, and the text in three columes at the top. but exactly at the top it is slightly above the center. i think that this works well becasue even though there is some what a lot of text the layout doesn't give you that feeling. it grabs you attention

what i like about this layout is that i is very simple. i think that with the picture taking up pretty much the whole layout and the text just in the bottom corner really draws you attention to notice both. they both hold there own part you don't just look at one you automatically have to look at both.
